5kt A/T burnups

Could this be possible?

It appears that my remaining '86 5kt has just lunched
a second a/t diff combo...

This unit was taken out of another car and swapped
last month (and the wallet still hurts!) with the one
from the car that was wrecked in early July. The
garage indicates that the necessary seals were changed
to keep the fluids separate & distinct. New "redline"
diff oil was installed. For about 1000-1500 miles it
seemed to be OK.

While driving through the Applaachians on I-81 last
week, my wife reported that the car was vibrating
badly (I'm in the U-Haul). We stopped, and I took the
car for a spin...she's right! Doesn't shift right,
and even the speedo quit.

We swapped out cars on the tow dolly with the '91
Jetta we were towing and got to Atlanta in one piece.

I finally get around to looking at it today, and I see
I've got a nice diff leak on my hands. Looks black,
smells burnt. ATF seems slightly burned smelling, but
still a reddish color. I also spot carbonized oil on
the "fins" of the diff housing.

Gents, I know I flushed that tranny job down the
drain, as well as the new radiator...but any ideas
from the gallery?

Should I just start looking for a 5 speed?

TIA Bill
