Replacing steering rack pressure hose

Dear listers -

Home today trying to replace pressure  hose going to the steering rack on
my 93 100 Avant.  The connection to the rack is on the back side,
completely out of sight.  It appears that I have to remove the rack in
order to get at the fitting.  More of a job than I bargained for.  Anyone
BTDT or have suggestions as how best to do it?  I'm going to clean the idle
control valve while I have the plenum torn apart. Looks like I'll have to
tackle this job another day and continue to pour in pentosin.
