I agree with you. Big Dorf truck has dual piston,
full floating calipers. Early in my ownership (200k
miles) Dealer $400+, no rebuilds. Later on rebuilds
were available at about $150. Went to Autozone last
year for cal. kits, and he tells me their "lifetime"
rebuilds were like $30 something each. Easy decision.
No problems with them so far. However the REAR
calipers for an Audi quattro were still very expensive
with a big core charge, and they had a lead time to
order. Things may have changed in the last year plus,
but IME all quattro rear calipers, rebuilt or not, are
big coin, with a big core charge (because so many are
shot) and NO ONE has these laying around.
Like I said, maybe things have changed, but at the
time I did them, it was the only solution that made
$en$e. I've done 3 sets of quats, and 2 sets of FWD
rear calipers, and I don't think I've spent $100. yet.
Total.
