Since the engine in my car is brand new and I'm technically very much so
in break in period I tried ever so hard to be nice and go slow. It turns
out that the way I have my throttle cable set up (using the stock 4kq
cable with an assembly of cruise control linkages hooking up at the back
of the IM) the throttle is WAY too stiff. I practically LAUNCHED out of
my garage. It's almost impossible to give a light throttle pressure so I
made my drive fairly short. I didn't want to see more than 1 or 2 psi of
boost but I ended up seeing about 8!!! Weeeeeeee!!!! I've never had this
much fun in a 4kq in my life! Hoolllly booooooooooost batman!
Now I feel kind of guilty though since I could smell burnt oil when I
pulled into the garage... but at least I got my temp gauge back (by
ditching that stupid Multi Function sensor). For those that have 4ktq's
and just need the gauge output from the sensor, go to a plumbing house (I
used Home Depot) and pick up a 1/4" male to 1/8" female pipe adapter. the
threads on the metric fittings are close enough to work ok.
That and on the drive I think I blew a pinhole in the hose going to my
manual boost gauge... drat.. now I've got to take the passenger side
paneling down again... grrrr.
Later!
