Steering Groan-

Jay, you say, "when I turn the [steering] wheel at lower rpms it makes a groaning noise. This definetely wasn't there before and was wondering if anybody had any suggestions."

On my 82 GT Coupe I have a steering fluid leak that requires topping up the reservoir every so often. If I forget to check however, and let the level drop below the reservoir minimum level, it reminds me by a groan at low rpm when I turn the wheel, just as you say. I suspect it is there at higher rpm, but the engine note masks the sound. At higher speed, the steering is generally not turned so sharply.
Did you 'bench bleed' the pump, filling it and rotating it to expel any trapped air before connecting it to the reservoir? Considering the abuse my steering pump has endured, groaning for long periods, I would doubt your pump has failed 'so soon'...?
