how much did the rebuilds from Can Tire cost you and what was your
impression of the quality?

In my pre-Audi days I had a Toyota 4x4 that I did extensive work to.
Once went to Can Tire to get a wheel cylinder, get back home open the
box and the rubber boots are all cracked. Back to Can tire to get
another one. I am smarter by this time and check before I leave the
store. You guessed it - cracked boots. The partslad got another one
and same thing. I said thanks very much and decided I would just bite
the bullet, mortgage the house and bought one from Toyota. Since that
time I have generally stayed away from Canadian Tire for critical auto
parts. I'll buy bulbs and wiring, lubricants and stuff like that but
not brake or steering parts.

As for your situation with the bleeders, I would be very, very nervous.
I think you can safely assume there is something wrong in there and
remember that your brake system is subject to very high pressure when
you apply the brakes. Unless that bleeder is in there properly, you risk
springing a leak, possibly while under heavy braking. Perhaps only some
of the threads are stripped and the last bleeder got cross threaded so
it is holding for now but you never know when it might let go. Sounds
like you need to double check that the bleeders and caliper are the same
thread. During the rebuild, they may have tapped it out and rethreaded
a different size. Hey, you never know.
