Starter don't - 4k 4 cyl, non-Q

Thanks Smitty,

This definitely has to be one of the worst to access starters in my book. I
removed one from the parts car for my friend who needed that one - he owes
me now. Had to remove the Trans mount to get to it - then it is relatively
simple. I suppose possibly because I had already removed several other in
the way components - I can't recall.

The problem I am having is actually getting to it just to troubleshoot it.
If I know I need to replace it, then I just put myself in the Zen trance and
do it. I think the key is: don't even think about whether to remove the
trans mount first - just do it.

Right now I just need to determine if it is actually bad. So far everything
I've done indicates the solenoid is shot. But for one more round of tests,
if I can get to it this eve.

Ben

Ben, Just a word of caution...........be in a very GOOD frame of mind
when (if) you change the starter,it's a bear of a job. Nothing like
the type 44 or even the 5cyl 4kq's. Haynes says, "Disconnect the
negative
battery cable.Note the wire location on solenoid, then disconnect.
Unscrew
mopunting bolts and withdraw starter motor. This is where the fun
begins,
given the fact that the subframe, engine pipe, axle etc. are all in the
way. It's a bitch even on a lift. Just fair warning.
