1998 A4 1.8t Q 5sp

I am experiencing a problem with idle surge on my 98 A4 1.8t. The dealer
and Audi  can't correct the situation. They have replaced the throttle
body and adjusted the idle to the upper idle rev range, but the surge
still persists.
When the car is hot and idling  the revs will surge and drop similar to
when the air-conditioning compressor kicks in. The drop after the surge
has been so low that the car has stalled ! Any A4 owners with similar
problems or suggestions please help!!!
