All,

The car stopped dead when it was cornered or braked hard. It wouldn't 
rollstart or restart until I tapped the top of the coil. It happened all of 
sudden on one drive. Good advice on Audi problems came from the list, and I 
went to work problem solving. The coil wasn't a red herring after all. The 
resistance values were the same at both side terminals, when the should have 
been less that 1ohm and greater than something.

Blau had one, used. Turns out this one looked like it came off a trawler and 
had the worst rust and crud I have ever seen. Once I spent 20 min. cleaning 
it up I got a resistance value that was close. Unfortunately, the terminals 
were the wrong size, but I cobbled it and it runs fine. I will however get a 
bosch red for the trunk.
