Peter,
Yes, I know that. What I dont know is if the position of the wires were/are
in the correct socket on the connector, especially since I had to originally
swap the yellow and white wires as low beam and high beam were apparently
backwards. Also my suspician is further aroused from looking at another set
of H4 connectors I had, and the wires were socketed differently.
It may be that either the yellow or white lead actually is ground, which
would have caused me to think the high and low were backwards. I will
verify with ohmmeter, and an H4 bulb pinout for comparison.
If this is the case, then it is an easy matter to put the wires in their
correct positions.

On German cars, the ground is always colored brown. Switched ground is brown
