<html><DIV>just told by a mechanic (vw/audi specialist
- he is flushing coolant and replacing hoses/tstat,
etc) that its normal for the 5k qt's to
show 1/4 mark on the temp gauge when
cruising on the highway. it wasnt running this cool
until it got cool outside. in traffic the temp needle
hovers right above the halfway mark
All vehicles operate in a temp. "range". There is no
set temp. When it is very cold and dry out heat is
quickly lost. Ever see cardboard over the radiator,
especially of OTR trucks? Many have a quilt over the
rad. opening that they can adjust. If it's very cold
(10-15*F) for very long I need to put cardboard over
the rad. on the Dorf pickup. It only runs just over
1/4 on the temp. gauge normally. As long as you're
reading on the gauge and your thermostat is opening,
you'll be O.K. IMO a little cool is better than too
hot.
