Tiff Needell has been the "test pilot" for that program for a number of years.
He gets invited to do a few one-off races (mainly for the TV exposure he brings)
and does reasonable well, he does have a well developed line of excuses for not
doing so well....

The messing about he does with road cars on private tracks is just that. The
quality of the current series has really plumbed new depths, they seem to have
thrown out the good and replaced it with fodder and the bias towards RWD cars
is worst than ever. That Irish twit, Jason Barlow, head hunted from C4 really
is the limit.

I have Tiff's RS4 review (he pans it, too safe(?) and of course not RWD) on PAL
VHS tape, if anyone in the UK can convert it to mpg I'll gladly loan it out. It
features loads more expen$ive tyre smoke if that's what gets you going.
