Those bands are NOT rust proof. Much better to use a stainless strap. I used
one in the center, not two. There was easily enough flat on both ends to
make a secure mounting. It is extremely strong and I can't imagine the caps
coming off.

Subject: Strapping my Intercooler
I have to strap my IC once I get it back together and I had and idea that
sounded real good!
You know the flexible metal bands they use for strapping pallets together.
Well that's my idea! Most are brown or black already. Put a little cushion
on the end and a plate under the tool that you tighten with so not to mess
up any of the fins. Anyone tried this. Will there be a problem with not
getting it tight enough? Anyone? Anyone?
