update on alternator noise over speakers

Ahh, I see. Well, at this point I wouldn't worry a bit about your amp
grounding or power. I would start with the RCA cable routing, but if that
doesn't help, try the radio shack filter for your head unit. I ended up
routing the cables in my car under the carpet by the doors. It was away
from everything then. Another thing that you might try, instead of pulling
up the cables for nothing, would be to take a spare set of RCA cables, hook
them to the head unit, and straight to the amp. Don't route them through
the carpet, just a temporary hook up, away from everything else. See if the
noise is there still. If it is gone, you can figure that it is being picked
up in the cables. If still there, then check your wiring to the head unit.
