settling on '88 5kcstq instead of '91 200 or V8?

I'd disagree about brakes on the 5k...I bet the 5k you tried had some minor
brake issue. My brakes are rock solid, no mushiness. The brakes would stop
the car from high speeds very quickly w/ no noticeable fade...and this w/ a
leaky brake servo. This was after I replaced all the calipers, rotors, m/c,
and flushed the system w/ DOT4. BTW, I don't have ABS. My next task would
be to replace the old hoses [prolly near original], and replace the servo.
The brakes will be unbelievable after that. Very safe car...don't really
care much for ABS unless it's in the snow/ice. I like that Audi's have an
ABS on/off switch.
