Paul you out there? Your email bounced, this is for you:
Howdy from the US! I saved that last message you sent me about wide
tires on TYP89 FWD models and am now referring to it. I am now in a bit of
a dilemma concerning tires. I want to go with wider tires that 205/45 16",
but 215/45's are not a standard size in any right. The 215/45's are really
expensive and are mainly made for the Acura NSX and Toyota MR2, RWD
mid-engined cars. The wear ratings are low on all of the options except for
the Michelin Pilot Sport's, $220 each! I have searched around like crazy
for any other companies that aren't listed at Tirerack for 215/45's, but no
luck.
So I am now looking at 225/40's and finding the prices are nearly half
as much for the same tires in the 215/45 size, plus more selection. You
mentioned that with a 16x7.5" ET35 tire there will be rubbing on the rear
fender where the arch meets the bumper. I mentioned it before, my
suspension is ridiculously stiff and I get barely any movement in any
situation. I run 340 springs with dead Koni Sport shocks, those will be
replaced in the spring, but it's actually not needed as I can't even tell
there's a handling difference with dead shocks and live ones, it's that
stiff back there. In your experience how much does the 225/40 rub in the
back? Does it rub at the tie rod up front? Could I remedy it with some
minor modification? I need to settle this soon as I have to submit the bill
for two of the tires to a construction company that damaged them and broke
two of my Borbet T rims at the same time, bastards. Any information is
greatly appreciated!
Many thanks and cheers!
