'89 200tqa Windshield Replacement "Wired?"

Q Friends:
I don't remember seeing anything on this subject and the archives were
sketchy.
I caught a stone on the way home on the fine roads of NH and my front
windshield is starting to crack. I see a wire dead center imbedded in the
glass. I have to assume it's for the radio, but there is one on the roof in
the back. Does anyone know if this windshield wire is for AM or FM and if
the windshield is extra tricky to replace because of this? Should I be extra
cautious of certain after-market replacements of any sort, or is this
connection imperative to operate the radio at all?
Before I call my friendly agent and do the deductable thing I want to know
where to send it, dealer or not.
