80 1.8S?

As I understand it here in the states the early 80s came with a 2.0 4
cylinder. (A much desired motor to drop into a VW Scirocco I might add)

    This is in the US?  In Europe they had many more engine choices and 1.8s
would signify a 1.8 carb model.  I believe they had, 1.6s, 1.6td, 1.8s,
1.8e, 2.0e, 2.3e.  Those of you in that area can correct as needed.  Maybe
that car was an "import?"
