4kq-Diff switches

I would think that you have a leak somewhere else.  I have one off an '86.

Is there a difference in the '85 and '86 diff. switches ?
Are they interchangable ? Just bought one from an '85...
I have one leaking such that I can't engage the center, can I rebuild it
?
Any  BTDT's ?

What damage could or would occur if the rear diff was engaged and not
the center ?
