Ken,
I've considered this myself- I looked at two '91 200qs
in California and I'm on the east coast. After considering
the cost of flying out there and driving back, it didn't make
sense to do it:
Cost of airfare + gas + tolls + lodging + food + vacation time
It is more economical, and even if it is equal, much more
convenient to have the car shipped. I was quoted approx. $800 for
San Francisco to Philadelphia.
One other thing to consider is that if you drive the car back
cross-country, you will have to look at the possibility that you
may have a breakdown on your trip, which would cost you even more
time and money.
On the other hand, 1500 miles is far less than the 3000 mile journey
I looked into.
