I mostly had experience with regular road radial tires
and rear wheel drive. I've had 2 sets of MXV4's on an
85 5kt. 2 years ago I commuted 84 miles each way
across RT. 380 in the Pocono Mts. of Pa. I thought
they were great. I could safely drive (probably
confidently is more like it) in deep snow up to 60
mph. In some cases the snow was 10" deep or more on
the road surface. That winter I passed 100's of SUV's
stuck or plodding along at 30 mph. Twice I did an
unauthorized U-turn through the grass median in that
same deep snow. Even when I tried to unsettle the car
I couldn't. I would occasionally try threshold
braking at 60 or 70 in the deep and hardpack with some
side to side steering input. The tires ALWAYS grabbed
very well. I've never YET driven a car with dedicated
snows, but I did just get a chance to try the Artic
Alpins I bought for the wifes Dodge Shadow (POS).
These tires raise icy/slushy driving to a whole new
level. In limited driving, I COULDN'T make them slip.
Not really. Anyway, since I got those MXV4's I've
not bought any tire but Michelin. I really believe
you get what you pay for and I'm not wasting my money
on any more sh*tty tires.
