V8 tweaking

Hi all.  As some of you may know, I bought my 200q20v avant last August from
an acquaintance of mine, who had just purchased a 97 A8 4.2.  He now complains
to me that he misses the acceleration of the 20v turbo...that his car has a
distinct flat spot or lag at highway speeds.  Someone has told him about
chipping audis and he is fascinated by the concept.  I know nothing about any
mods available (or, for that matter, whether his lag or flat spot is normal)
for the 4.2.  Anyone out there have any thoughts on the subject(s)?
P.S.  He also has heard about some "bright, bluish headlights" that would be
good for him...any suggestions there, too?
