200 Quattro - warning light

well, i'm talking from experience and not merely guessing.  that warning
lite comes on when engine knocking or pinging is detected.  when the oil
level is low enough your engine will knock for sure.

Don't think so.  The check engine light is from the ECU that controls
ignition/fuel/boost.  It doesn't know anything about engine oil levels.
If engine oil level is low, you'll get a warning in the "auto check"
display which is a different and separate system.
