Window regulators, again

Listers,
It looks like my area will be hit by snow tomorrow.
Unfortunately, this means installing my snows on the
5ktq tomorrow morning early. This also means that I need
to get my driver's side front window working.
What can I look at to see if the window regulator is working
properly? It looks fine on the outside- no broken plastic
guides, no frayed wire. However, when the switch is depressed,
the window switch light turns off and stays off, while nothing
happens to the window itself.
I suspect bad wiring to be the problem, as I had some intermittent
problems with this regulator previously, but then it worked fine
for quite a while. The regulator is used and the wiring has one
section where electrical tape is used and I suspect that there is
a broken/intermittent connection there.
Anything else I should be looking at? I don't really suspect the
door hinge wiring, because everything else works fine and the
switch worked earlier this year, just the cable guide was broken,
frayed the wire and killed the regulator.
I'm looking forward to having a most wonderful morning (most
sarcastically). I gotta pick up my boss and drive through the snow.
The Bimmer is going to stay parked and I'll drive the 5ktq, just
to be safe, unless the forecast changes and it calls for rain and
clearing weather.
Taka
'86 5ktq (for sale) with snows tomorrow and hopefully a working
window
