injectors:to replace or not to replace?

Hi all.

Last thing to check before I start doing the mod - injectors. Never delt
with injectors before.
Does it make sense to try to check out spray pattern on 140kmi car? Or
it is more likely than unlikely that they are gone? 

When checking spray pattern do I need to lift metering plate to get
fuel  feed to injetors? (I am going to turn on fuel pump w/o starting
the engine).
