instead of the trigger piece pot metal cracking and renedering the door
unopenable, the little lock lever piece goes, making them un-lockable. 
But in this case there is a newer part that you replace it with fixing
it permanently.  

They also have a "lock heater" function, who knows how well that works?

Of course a nice coating of ice still makes the door handle inoperative!
