Multi-function temp sensor

SJM's site says the new MFS w/three connectors rather
than 4 can fail about every two years.  So, what's the
best bet?  Just get a 3-prong and replace?  Or look
for the old 4-prong original style?  Seeking list
wisdom.  
  What should I expect to pay for a new MFS sensor?
