'80's audi door handle question

I've always wondered what people do about the keys when they do 
stuff like this.  Do you have separate keys for doors and 
ignition/trunk/glovebox?

Also, here's a story.  A friend of mine once halfway tried to put 
some Corrado pull-type handles on his Coupe GT.  It required 
cutting some metal out of the door area, which he did.  Before 
finishing, he hit some kind of obstacle, and ended up giving up on 
the idea, leaving the holes in the door.

I'm sure the linkage wasn't right or something.  Rather sad.  That 
car was sold to another friend later on.
