My RX-7 also has a roller bearing for the pilot bearing.  After
spending an evening under it in the dark and the rain destroying the
bearing with slide hammers I went to the auto parts store and they
loaned me a puller. It was an internal bearing puller that had U shaped
legs that rested against the flywheel.  Turning a screw threaded in the
top of the U provided pulling force to the collet.  I think the
constant pressure backed it out as opposed to impact force.  It was
made by owatonna tools but I think snap on has a similar tool.
