---entire previous history snipped---

My most recent state inspection (this past Monday): I pull up outside the
inspection place (a local Chevron station) and gesture though the falling
snow to the man inside by pointing to my two month out of date inspection
sticker and shrugging my shoulders indicating a question. He shakes his
head "yes" and motions me inside. He sticks his head out the door and says
"bring your registration and insurance card". The shop owner starts
recording the paperwork and the workman starts scraping the old sticker off
the windshield. Then he sticks on the newly completed sticker. Elapsed
time: about 2 minutes. "$7.32 please."

I guess the process does assure that the car is at least minimally
insured. :-(
