In the UK, growing a certain weed is an offence liable on summary
conviction to result in a short term of imprisonment and confiscation
of the equipment used.
However, the court's powers do not extend to destruction of the
equipment, and they are therefore obliged to do what is done with other
confiscated property - sell it to the benefit of the public purse.
Accordingly the local auction house in Wellingborough occasionally has
what look like complete (and sometimes large) hydroponic plants for
sale, just ten doors or so down the street from the police station.
Very professional-looking, some of it.
If you get a chance to see the BBC's coverage of the very end of the
Network Q Rally of Great Britain (a.k.a. the Rally of Wales) take a
look at the foliage in the bottom left of the screen when the second
camera on the last stage is in its extreme leftmost position.
