Yup - I can't see that grease packing could ever work on this bearing.

This is a pretty professional blind bearing puller kit - it's never let
me down before. I got it to deal with steering pump seals, but it's
handled much larger stuff than that before.
There are two bearings laid on the hinge. The right one is the stock
ur-quattro (WR) bearing - this is open both ends and I can see how the
hydraulic pressure trick might work. The left one is the MC pilot
bearing - the right hand end is capped and I can't see how the grease
trick would work at all.
I think it's going to meet Mr Chisel shortly after Christmas.
For the time being, Puff (the magic wagon) is on axle stands. I'm
currently driving around in (some might like to look away now) a 1988
100 FWD Type 44 that cost me the local equivalent of $250. Beautiful
car.
I'm about to settle for the holiday break, so I'll be setting 'nomail'
on in a couple of hours. I'll still be checking the userid for mail
occasionally, but I won't be reading the main list for a while.
Have a good one, guys (includes the ones wearing skirts).
Why have gorillas and monkey boys got big nostrils?
Because they've got big fingers.
