Hi

Sounds like an ISV, but is there any in Your ´88?
In older K-Jetronics, there was an AAV and it
don´t usually do this, but possible? You may have
a good result only by cleaning the valve, so You
don´t first have to visit the dealer.

Maybe You also should check air leaks:
-between airflow meter and throttle
-other vacuum connections
