Troubleshooting 89 100q - fuel gauge problems, autocheck system

I have an 89 100q we drove up to Minneapolis this weekend (COLD).  Midway
through the trip, the BRAKE LIGHT and headlight symbol start popping up on
the Auto-check display.  The fuel gauge also shows very low now (in relation
to reality).  The auto-check stuff is random, OR anytime I put a blinker on
(4 ways included).  I checked all lights and they are functional.  

2 weeks ago, I had the cluster out to replace the ignition switch.  I am
suspecting a ground problem on the display... any other ideas?
