How is the idle? Is it smooth like stock, or is it predictively rumpy, like
a performance cam had been installed? Lotta high lift, high overlap
performance cams don't make any power until 2K+ rpms. How is the power
_after_ 2K?

Since you said the PO had used it for racing, he may have built the engine
to live at the upper end of the power band, and it may not be a streetable
combination (seen many a street racer get sucked in by the 'my engine can
tach up to 7K+ rpms' mantra, but they don't tell you that it won't hold an
idle), though I don't know of any Audi cams with that extreme of a profile.
Get the PO to tell you what the engine was built with.
Good luck!
