I have found this to be a problem on other cars as well. I have no
experience with the 4kq, but my friends 5ks was hard to fill if the pump was
filling at its full rate and I have the same problem with my '82 Coupe. What
I have noticed is that not all pumps cause this problem. I have found that
different stations have pumps that fill faster and it is the faster pump
that causes hte backpressure problem which causes the pump to cut off the
flow of gasoline. Moving the pump handle around can stop this (as mentioned
before). Or just pump it a touch slower than normal. Even just holding the
nozzle a touch away from the fill hole can help....whatever trick works for
you. I've found that certain Petro-Canada pumps do this to me the most....
