I found a broken tooth a few months back.

One of the few things I know about the car is that the owner once
hydrolocked it with fuel when he was playing with the cold start valve.

I wonder if the starter took the tooth off at that point.

This was an MB engine (~= MC-1.5) - it ran, but misfired badly above
4000-ish.
