Fault Codes: UK Audi 100 '91; RT Engine

Can anyone please confirm what fault code 2221 represents for the RT
engine ?

Have a problem with starting - almost impossible to do so when hot -
cold is ok - but disconnecting coolant temp. sender always seems to
enable it to start but engine will not rev well until this sensor is
reconnected. 

Tried the diagnostics which dumps the above single code
