Here again, US spec VR6es are a little down-powered compared to the Euros.
172hp up to '98 (except the 2.9 version found in the Corrado, which,
I think had a bit more), and 174hp '99 and up. AFAIK the 24V VR6 has
not appeared on any US model.

The VR6 is normally mated to the VW 02A transaxle in transverse orientation.
I don't believe the Audi transaxles will mate up. Moreover, the mounts,
oil pan, and other ancillaries probably won't fit either. Some fairly
significant custom fabrication would have to be done to make the VR6 work
on an Audi. If that much work is to be expended, it would make more sense
to go with an I5 turbo which would provide more bang for the buck.
