Wastegate springs values-[5kT]

Yes, you can make an adjustable wastegate.

1. Remove the wastegate cap
2. Remove the wastegate spring perch from inside the cap. The 10mm , I
think but its been awhile, allen bolt holding the perch was installed
with Loctite so it's quite hard to break loose.
3. Use an appropriate tool to pop out the metal "cover" in the center
of the wastegate cap. NOTE: Just look down the threads of the sping
perch bolt you just removed and you will see what I am talking about
4. Thread about a 2.5" bolt down the center of the cap from the top.
Sorry, I don't remember the exact thread/size of the metric bolt. It
will be stiff, but the threads do exist all the way through the cap.
5. Use a nut on the top and the bottom of the spring perch to secure it
to the bolt you just threaded down the center of the cap. NOTE: You
may need to grind down at least the top nut to allow a greater range of
adjustment unless you are able to find really thin nuts
6. Put a large washer on the spring perch seat. This will allow
adjustment of the perch without the spring binding. NOTE: This is not
absolutely necessary, but it is a good safety precaution. In theory, if
the spring was to bind as you turned the perch, it could tear the
wastegate diaphram.
7. Re-Install the wastegate cap.
8. Enjoy.

I have done this same procedure three different times, all
successfully. Instructions are specific for MC1 engine. 86-early89.
If anyone needs any further explanation, drop me a line. I will see
about getting the exact specs for the nuts and bolt this afternoon.

I believe you adjust the tension on the spring by shimming. I think
I've
read here about someone coming up with a threaded variable adjustment
system.
