91 100 auti tranny lockout update

After a little poking around, I noticed quite by accident due to the 
reflection of the sun, that the gear indicator on the dash shows "N" when the 
key is turned on, and quickly moves to "D" where it stays until the key is 
turned off and on again regardless where the lever actually is. The light for 
this display has never worked.
Apparently the electronics are not seeing the proper gear lever position?
Steve B. suggested jumping the terminals in the fuse box. I thought my 
troubles were over till I looked in the fuse box to find a red warning 
sticker over the relay socket, saying it is not used for the 4 spd autobox.
Do I have to have it towed back to the transmission shop? Say it isn't so!
Any help greatly appreciated. We have been without the services of this daily 
driver for over a month.

PS It ran fine for 4 days after the tranny rebuild.
