I have a problem with the front brakes on my 5ktq.

Hi Jörgen,

The hanging of the brake pads is usually due to water in the brake fluid.
If you have not done so recently, you should bleed your brake fluid with new
DOT4 (or whatever the European equivalent is).

This hanging is often compounded by a mis-adjusted master cylinder. The
plunger depth must be set so the ports in the master cylinder are open when
the brake pedal is released. If the plunger is not allowed to return
properly, the brake system will retain pressure. The ports could be barely
open when cold, and start to shut when the master cylinder heats up.

Likewise, if the vent hole is plugged on the cap to the master cylinder,
pressure can build up and apply the pads.

All of these usually have water in the brake fluid as a factor, so bleeding
the brake fluid is the first thing to do.

The ABS system is unlikely to be a factor. The ABS is actuated by a
hydraulic modulator under the control of a small computer getting input from
wheel sensors. The hydraulic modulator is just below the master cylinder.
The two hydraulic lines from the master cylinder feed into the hydraulic
modulator, and from the hydraulic modulator to the four wheels.

Best,
