Well anyone of you that remember my long running clunking should be
happy to hear it was a simple and overlooked fix. I had the clunking before
my new suspension, control arms, ball joints, mounts, and so on went in.
Then the clunking disappeared for a month, but came back in full force.
Then it disappeared again, after I had touched nothing, but of course it
came back. So I consulted my new mechanic at European Cure in Colchester,
VT. He instantly said ball joint bolts at the control arm, without
hesitation. I never touched those because the ball joints came with new
bolts and bracket. The clunking was there with the old ball joint bracket
and bolts, so why did it come back after new ones went in? He told me that
on his 4ktq rally beast he had these two bolts loosen so many times that he
straight wended the ball joints onto the control arms!
That convinced me enough to try it. I tightened those up and bingo, bye
bye clunking! Though my alignment is way off.
Hoorah, Hoorah!
