My plans for a better cornering '90 80q

I want to improve the track performance of my '90 80q.  It is my daily
driver, but it is also used for the occasional track event or auto-X.  I am
looking at the following "areas in need of improvement", listed in order of
importance:

(1) Driver competence - but we won't go into that here...
(2) Tires - I plan on moving to ultra high performance 205 55 15s from the
current all-season 195 60 14s.    
(3) Wheels - I will need new wheels (Borbet type "S") for my new tires.
(4) Eibach springs - I read several very positive posts here about
installing Eibachs.

Aside from wheel styles and tire brands, is there anything wrong with this
plan?  I would buy the wheels and tires from the Tire Rack.  I would
appreciate any alternative suggestions or plans.  Will the extra 1cm tire
width or 15" really change anything?  Would mounting 205s on the original
wheels be something to consider?
