autocar have driven it. (3.0l fwd, not quattro)

"a revelation" is how they describe it.  they discovered a major improvement
in handling which they credit the new rear axle (now with hydraulic mounts).
it allows the car to be much stiffer in roll, and exhibit significantly less
understeer.  ditto the increase in chassis stiffness.  other items which
gained comment: an engine much improved in dynamism and sound.  a much
improved gearshift.  ride quality even on the 235/45 tyres and an absence of
pitch.  virtually no increase in weight.

"the best car audi have done in years" is the quote.

btw, the same magazine issue rates the new "c" class merc as a better car
than the 3-series, based mainly due to its handling.
