well, depending on how much of the rebuild you are willing to do yourself
(BTW, how do you know the motor needs rebuilding and how bad is it?), it can
go from reasonably cheap to un-godly expensive. If you need over sized
pistons you're in for at least $500 for a set of em' and another $150 in
machine work (boring/deck planing/etc). As a general price guideline,
consider yourself lucky to spend under $1k for a minimalistic rebuild
(requiring new pistons) and anywhere up to about $4k for a completely
stripped,hot tanked, essentially NEW engine with somebody else doing all the
dirty work.

Sounds like a fun project. What kind of a HP gain are you going to get out
of all of this? As far as wiring issues I think some people have used the
stock 4kq CIS-E system on the 2.3 yes? If not, it really isn't that big a
deal to swap systems. I think in total there were about 6-7 wires needing
splicing in my turbo harness... although Nate and Huw both had a HUGE hand
in helping me out there (thanks guys!).
