Though I have done a 5 cylinder turbo conversion in my car, it is
compeltely understandable why the 1.8t is attractive. First off, the 1.8t is
a shorter motor, shifting weight back further towards the front axle. Also,
because it is shorter, there is much more room in front of the motor for
water and air cooling. Also, the 5 valve head flows almost twice as much CFM
as a 2 valve head. The 1.8t is an increadibly advanced and powerful engine.
It uses the most modern fuel injection possible and is easily tuneable to
300+ hp. Cost is the most prohibitive reason I can see to not use a 1.8t,
other than that there are no real disadvantages...
