That's an easy question to answer- the 1.8T engine is much
lighter, making the front/rear weight balance better, and the
strong aftermarket for this engine makes a chip upgrade a rather
simple proposition. Now, I have no idea how you get the engine and
ECU to communicate w/ everything else. The A4 has a lot more systems
that are connected to the ECU, IIRC.
I think 197hp out of a much lighter engine would give you similar
performance gains as 220 hp out of a chipped MC engine.

Why would someone do this when could use a 5kt engine and have another
cylinder? I mean, if you're going to go to the trouble of a swap, make
the most of it!
