temp gauge drop when termostat is opened

Hi all,

I bought my 200tq 89 with broken multifunction termo switch, so temp
gauge in the dashboard was dead.  I did no have Audis bofore.
When I changed termoswitch and gauge came to life I noticed that I don't
see the drop on the gauge which is supposed to happen when termostat is
opened.
Should I see it?  Or I have something wrong?
