synthetic gear oils

My own opinion is that redline is worth the extra cost - particularly if you
live where there's significant cold (or hot) weather. In the winter you'll
notice much smoother shifts especially when the car's cold.

On the other hand, I'd rather have regular dino-grade gearbox oil than
Mobil1. While I love their motor oil, I had a gearbox fail shortly after
switching to Mobil1 a few years back, although in all fairness, the car was
a Saab and my son who was 17 or 18 at the time had spent a couple of weeks
driving it - and either of those qualifiers is probably enough to explain
the gearbox's dying.
